Case Study: Severe Degenerative Injury with Joint Space Collapse at C1-C2
signalment:
10-year-old Arabian Saddlebred cross mare
History
Patient presented for evaluation of head and neck.
rDVM found abnormal noise and palpable movement in the cranial cervical region.
On evaluation she did not appear painful with her neck, though there is loud dull noise on movement of the neck originating in the upper neck.
She does not appear to hold her head in a protective manner at all.
Diagnosis
Severe degenerative injury and joint space collapse affecting the C1-C2 articulation.
Extensive subchondral and trabecular bone abnormalities.
Permanent structural injury to the joint.
