Oakdale, California — September 2025

Pioneer Equine Hospital, a premier, full-service equine veterinary practice proudly announces the integration of the cutting-edge Asto CT Equina® Standing CT Scanner into its diagnostic services. This state-of-the-art imaging technology marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional equine care. With this addition, Pioneer Equine Hospital becomes the third NVA Equine partner clinic to adopt Asto CT Equina®, further enhancing its diagnostic capabilities.

A Legacy of Excellence in Equine Healthcare

Located in Oakdale, California, Pioneer Equine Hospital has been at the forefront of equine medicine since its founding in 1973 by Drs. Britton and Black. Over the years, it has grown into a full-service referral center, offering a wide range of services, including outpatient and ambulatory primary care. The hospital spans a 22,000-square-foot facility on a 20-acre property and features two surgical suites, four padded induction/recovery rooms, and seven large examination rooms tailored for advanced diagnostics. A key feature is its 140×300-foot covered lameness evaluation area, designed to optimize assessments on both hard and soft ground.

Elevating Diagnostic Precision with Asto CT Equina®

The Asto CT Equina® is the world’s first dual-axis fan-beam computed tomography (CT) scanner specifically engineered for imaging both limbs simultaneously, as well as the head and neck of mildly sedated standing equine patients. This groundbreaking technology eliminates the need for general anesthesia for most procedures, making the process safer and more comfortable for horses while delivering rapid, high-resolution 3D images crucial for accurate diagnoses and treatment planning.

Dr. Becky Hicks, Equine Surgeon at Pioneer Equine Hospital, shares, "We strive to maximize the quality of care for our equine patients by providing compassionate care with a strong focus on each patient’s individual needs. Partnering with Asto CT and integrating the Equina® is one way we are continuing to modernize and constantly improve our practice."

Sara Cloward, Operations Manager, adds, "We are thrilled to implement this cutting-edge technology. The Equina® scanner will empower our team to enhance diagnostic accuracy and provide tailored treatment plans, reinforcing our commitment to advancing equine medicine."

A Collaborative Effort in Advancing Equine Imaging

Dr. David Ergun, CEO of Asto CT, expresses enthusiasm about the partnership: "We are excited to work with Pioneer Equine Hospital. Their dedication to excellence in equine healthcare aligns perfectly with our mission to provide the highest standard of imaging solutions. The addition of the Asto CT Equina® will undoubtedly improve diagnostic capabilities and patient outcomes at Pioneer Equine Hospital."
