Aneurysmal Bone Cyst

Case History

  • 9-month-old Percheron gelding presented for respiratory noise of 3 months duration

  • Physical examination of horse was normal and no obvious facial asymmetry.

  • Respiratory tract examination

  • No nasal flow left nostril

  • Mild mucoid discharge from right nostril

  • No respiratory distress

  • Endoscopy of upper respiratory tract

  • Left nasal passage collapsed and only could get in approx. 5 cm from nose

  • Right nasal passage could pass to larynx.

  • Arytenoids normal abduction, no abnormalities

  • Trachea normal with mild amount of mucoid discharge

  • Referred for CT to see extend of mass in head and what origin is.

Final Diagnosis

  • Horse was euthanized due to extent of mass as well as poor prognosis an autopsy was performed

  • Final diagnosis on autopsy was Multilocular aneurysmal bone cyst
